T-Mobile Vairy Touch II Smartphone Now Down To £15

T-Mobile Vairy Touch II

High street retailer Argos has cut the price of the T-Mobile Vairy Touch II from £29.99 to £14.99, making it the cheapest touchscreen smartphone in the country by a margin and cheaper by a fiver compared to T-Mobile direct.

Note that you will need to buy a £10 top up when buying the phone and the latter comes with 30 days free internet.

T-Mobile’s mandate to bring touchscreen technology to the masses has spawned this ultra-cheap device. Considering the Vairy Touch II’s low price, it comes packed with a surprising amount of technology under the bonnet. Released back in February 2010, the phone comes with a 2.8-inch 240×400 pixels resistive touchscreen display plus a 2GB microSD card.

Other features include a two megapixel rear camera without a front facing camera or a flash, video capture and playback, a USB port, Bluetooth, a FM radio, EDGE internet and an MP3 player. The phone is even capable of shooting 3GP-format videos, which can be shared with other phone users via Bluetooth. Sadly, there’s no 3G connectivity or Wi-Fi capability, which means you’ll need to use the much slower GPRS data link to perform tasks such as sending MMS messages and surfing the Internet.

There’s no 3.5mm jack or Wi-Fi and the battery, a 800mAh battery allows the phone – which is build by ZTE – to be used for nearly five hours.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus now available from Vodafone

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Vodafone has announced the Ice Cream Sandwich-enhanced Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available now. Initially, it was only to be found at O2 and Phones 4U.

The UK network is now giving customers the smartphone, which is the first in the world to come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, for free on a two year £41-a-month contract, according to its press release.

For your money you get 1,200 minutes, unlimited text messages and 750MB of data to use as you wish. You also get access to Vodafone’s Data Test Drive, which means you can use as much data as you like for the first three months of your contract.

The cheapest plan with which you can get the Galaxy Nexus is £26 per month, and it gives you 100 minutes, 500 texts, and 250 MB of data, but choosing this plan requires you to pay £299 for the phone outright. The most expensive plan costs £56 per month and has 3,000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of data included.

There’s also the option to sell your current mobile to Vodafone for as much as £270 if you use its new service, Vodafone Buyback.

There are some other options as well, so make sure you think long and hard before choosing a plan which is adequate for you. When you’re ready to pick, head on over to Vodafone .

Sporting a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display, a dual core 1.2GHz processor, Android 4.0 and 1080p video recording, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a powerful piece of smartphone machinery.

However, the launch of the device, which has been plagued by a volume bug that made the phone difficult to use, meant a number of users have been left with a sour taste in their mouths.

BEST DEALS: Xperia Arc S on Orange, £20.50 per month

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S

Phone specialist Phones4U has a rather impressive exclusive deal currently running for the white-hot Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, with the 4.2″ phone available with an Orange SIM for £20.50 per month.

It’s not the best contract in the world, but you do get 200 calling minutes, 3000 monthly texts and there is a data usage allowance, too – but it’s only 100MB. But still. It’s an Arc S for a shade over £20.

Phones4U’s plan is cheaper than what Rogers has made. Rogers have the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 on a price plan.

Rogers are offering the Xperia X10 for $25.50 a month when taking out a twelve month contract with them. Minimum pricing is $32.35 a month. To put that in perspective, the Xperia Arc is available on a one year contract but, the actual handset will cost $499.99 and $449.99 if you go with a two year contract.

So, you choose which one suits you.

Vodafone to have own smartphone

Vodafone 858 Smart

Keeping up with the trend of people using smartphones, Vodafone has confirmed that it has plans to release its first ever own-brand smartphone.

Known as the Vodafone 858 Smart, or simply “Smart,” the unit is scheduled to be release sometime early in Summer.

According to news, the phone boasts of having a 2.8-inch touch screen display, a 2 megapixel camera, and has a rather dated Android 2.2 operating system. So far, there is no news whatsoever as to whether or not the phone will be able to update its operating system to Android 2.3.

In terms of hardware, the Smart unit is said to have all the typical features of a regular smartphone. This means it also has Bluetooth and WiFi, on top of the 3G prerequisite. That way, those who want to check their mails and perform other tasks can do so provided there is a wireless network available. The mobile comes in two colors black and white. However, there are plans to customize the unit in the near future.

Despite the affordability of the smartphone, Vodafone has stated that the unit will have access to all the standard features that Androids have. This includes GMail, Android Market, Google Maps, Twitter, Facebook, and Google Talk.

“It takes the higher end mobile internet experience and packages it for the mass market, its range of covers and accessories making it a fun fashion statement. Available on pay as you go plans, and on the fast, reliable Vodafone networks, the Vodafone Smart is a great step-up into the world of mobile data.”

O2 to launch Xperia Play in June

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play White

Although other major networks have already launched Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play, O2 still has not yet launched the mobile.

Some bugs were discovered by O2 while testing the mobile known for its “Playstation” feature. This is the main reason why the network has experienced delays in its release of the mobile. The bugs, however, are unknown, but considering that the mobile has been launched in other networks, it is a curious case as to how severe these bugs really are.

On a lighter side, O2 users can now expect the mobile to be launched sometime in June, which has already been confirmed by the network. It seems that the said bugs that caused the delay have already been fixed, which makes the launch possible next month.

Many enthusiasts have wondered to what extent O2 has hurt itself with the delay as other networks have already launched the mobile during the time that the network has spent fixing bugs. Luckily for the network, they get to offer the exclusive Xperia Play in white version, plus the fact that the earthquake in Japan has undoubtedly slowed down production of the mobile.

For now, the exact date of O2’s Xperia Play launch is still undetermined, as well as other details.
