It has long been rumoured that Apple is working on a budget version of the iPhone to go alongside its top price flagship edition, but last week an image apparently showcasing just such a device, was posted online by Tactus.
The snap was allegedly taken by someone working within Apple’s supply chain and gives an overview of the read of the device, which is housed in a white plastic chassis that is more than a little reminiscent of the pre-iPhone 4 design used in this range.
Technical details about the handset include claims that it will sport a 3.5 inch retina display and a five megapixel camera, as well as a processor from the A5 range.
The white chassis of this handset is not the only colour option to be offered, with black, red and yellow iPhones also in the works.
The source was even bold enough to put an exact launch date on the device, claiming it will be unveiled on October 15th with a price of around 200.
If true, this glut of information points to a significant shift in Apple’s smartphone strategy and could see it targeting cheaper phones from companies like Samsung and Nokia.
