The Ascend W1 is going to be a bargain basement smartphone aimed at pay as you go buyers, since it will cost just 119.99 all in, or from 13.50 a month on an O2 contract, according to TechRadar.
While it may be cheap, the Ascend W1 is not exactly underpowered. It comes with a dual core 1.2GHz processor, half a gig of RAM and a four inch display.
A five megapixel camera and storage space of 4GB should be adequate for most customers and the Ascend W1’s main rival will be Nokia’s recently revealed Lumia 520.
The Ascend W1 comes in two youth-friendly colours, with blue and pink models releasing on the 7th of March for UK buyers to snap up.
O2 will have a temporary deal with Huawei, which means the Ascend W1 is exclusive to its network, although this is likely to end at some point this year, so that other providers can get a slice of the action.
Windows Phone 8 is quickly becoming an attractive prospect at both ends of the market, which is good news for Microsoft and its manufacturing partners.
