LG integrates light bulbs with smartphone tech

LG smart bulbA new lighting product from LG is designed to make it easier for people who are at home to detect when someone is trying to call their smartphone. The idea is that a special new light bulb will be synchronised with your mobile device of choice, so it can alert you as someone attempts to get in touch.

The Smart Bulb will operate over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, depending on your preferences, according to GSM Arena. It will also be 80 per cent more efficient than a traditional bulb and can last up to 10 years without needing to be replaced.

While the £19 reported price tag may be a little steep, it is comparatively impressive, given that similar bulbs with much shorter life spans will come and go in the same period.

As long as you have a smartphone with Android Jelly Bean, or an iPhone with iOS 6 or higher, the bulbs will work with it.

And of course, letting you know when you are being called is not the sole function on offer, because an app can also be used to control the lights when you are out of the house, or create a party mood with pre-programmed effects. In short, it looks like the future of lighting is here.
