New maps application coming to Nokia and Samsung phones

Image via blog.gadgethelpline.comWhile most people turn to Google’s mapping service when they want to get directions from A to B, its monopoly of the market might be eroded slightly, following the recent announcement that Samsung and Nokia are working on an Android version of navigation app, Here.

One of the advantages of Here is that users can plot routes and navigate even if they do not have an internet connection available, with programming trickery meaning that the app does not eat into your storage space even if it is being used in this offline mode.

The beta iteration of Here is going to be downloadable for Samsung’s Android smartphones in the near future, according to an official blog post from Nokia. This exclusive partnership means that it will not be coming to models from other manufacturers which run Google’s operating system.

The good thing about Android is that you can pick and choose the apps you use and those you do not, so Samsung fans who prefer Here to Google Maps will be able to use it soon, while those who prefer to stay plugged into Google’s services can do so if they wish.
