The T3 Awards were held this week and the handset which was voted best of the bunch in 2012 was the Samsung Galaxy S3.
It is worth noting that the Apple iPhone 5 did not get released in time for it to be considered alongside its peers, although it is likely that even if it had been in the running, the Galaxy S3 would still have walked away with the top prize.
The Galaxy S3 redefined expectation of what a smartphone should offer when it launched in the spring, bringing with it a high definition 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display, a quad core processor and a heavily modified user interface.
Also up for the prize of Phone of the Year were the HTC One X and the Nokia Lumia 900, both of which are equally deserving of attention but for different reasons.
The technology press has really taken to Samsung’s smartphones over the last couple of years, with the Galaxy S2 and S3 receiving many near-perfect review scores and awards like this.
The commercial success of Apple has not been stunted, but it does seem that the Californian firm is now playing catch-up to its overseas rivals.
