Network provider Three has announced that it is bringing the Xperia X8 smartphone from Sony Ericsson to its UK customers in 2011, offering another option for anyone who wants midrange Android goodness.
The Xperia X8 is smaller and considerably cheaper than its larger cousin the X10 and its specs are suitably slimmed to fit its price bracket, with a 3.2 megapixel camera sitting alongside connectivity including Wi-Fi and GPS for navigation.
Three’s Sylvia Chind said that the Xperia X8 would have unparalleled access to 3G network connectivity as almost 98 per cent of the UK is now covered by its masts.
The Xperia X8 has a small three inch display and, like the original X10, it runs version 1.6 of Android, which is looking a little creaky when you consider the latest Google Nexus S is on version 2.3.
The good news is that Sony Ericsson has heavily customised the user interface to make it look and feel very different from other budget Android smartphones. This also helps compensate for the small size of the display.
