Keeping up with the trend of people using smartphones, Vodafone has confirmed that it has plans to release its first ever own-brand smartphone.
Known as the Vodafone 858 Smart, or simply “Smart,” the unit is scheduled to be release sometime early in Summer.
According to news, the phone boasts of having a 2.8-inch touch screen display, a 2 megapixel camera, and has a rather dated Android 2.2 operating system. So far, there is no news whatsoever as to whether or not the phone will be able to update its operating system to Android 2.3.
In terms of hardware, the Smart unit is said to have all the typical features of a regular smartphone. This means it also has Bluetooth and WiFi, on top of the 3G prerequisite. That way, those who want to check their mails and perform other tasks can do so provided there is a wireless network available. The mobile comes in two colors black and white. However, there are plans to customize the unit in the near future.
Despite the affordability of the smartphone, Vodafone has stated that the unit will have access to all the standard features that Androids have. This includes GMail, Android Market, Google Maps, Twitter, Facebook, and Google Talk.
“It takes the higher end mobile internet experience and packages it for the mass market, its range of covers and accessories making it a fun fashion statement. Available on pay as you go plans, and on the fast, reliable Vodafone networks, the Vodafone Smart is a great step-up into the world of mobile data.”
