Images showing a new Sony Ericsson handset, rumoured to be called the Xperia Arc, have appeared online via Russian website Gagadget, with many speculating that this mobile will be launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week.
The Xperia Arc is so named because it features a curved rear which will be just 8.7 millimetres thick at the centre point. In terms of specs things look promising as it is alleged to sport a 4.2 inch display with a high resolution of 854×480, along with an eight megapixel camera on the rear.
Android 2.3 will be preinstalled, presumably with a heavy dose of Sony Ericsson’s own modification so that it fits in with the other handsets in the Xperia range. A 1GHz processor will speed things along nicely, although now that the promise of dual core smartphones is on the horizon this does not seem as impressive.
In addition to the images, a YouTube video showing off the Xperia Arc has been found, although whether it is the genuine article or a lovingly created hoax remains to be seen. CES is throwing up many surprises, with this expected to be just one of Sony Ericsson’s revelations.
