The LG Optimus G was released in the second half of 2012 and ultimately became the basis for the well received Nexus 4 handset from Google.

Now a new teaser video released by the manufacturer ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show, which takes place this week, suggests that a follow-up device is going to be launched at the event.

Android Community reports that the Optimus G2 will feature a five inch, full HD 1080p display, which will put it in the same league as Samsung’s Galaxy S4.

After its CES debut, the Optimus G2 is expected to be on sale from May, which means it would be on the market in under a year since the release of its predecessor.

This speeding up of the upgrade cycle is now becoming more common, with Apple taking the lead in terms of a quick product turnaround.

For consumers, it may seem like an annoyance that their smartphones are being superseded so quickly, but with mobile phone contracts also becoming more flexible, it should be easy to stay at the cutting edge of the market, if you have the cash to burn and the need to impress.
