The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, which is set to be the hardcore gamer’s dream handset, is going to be available in the UK from the 28th of March, at a price of a penny under £520.
If you want to pick up the SIM free version of Sony Ericsson’s Android-based mobile gaming powerhouse then you will have only a month to wait, although its UK launch is being supported by all of the major network providers so a subsidised alternative should also be on offer.
None of the networks has committed to a pay monthly price scheme for the Xperia Play yet, but it is thought that you will need to spend £35 a month to get it free, which may be a little dear for some potential buyers.
The price of the Xperia Play seems fair given its specs, which include a 1GHz processor, slide-out gaming controls and Android 2.3 preinstalled, along with official support for ageing PlayStation 1 games.
There is potential for the Xperia Play to succeed, although whether gamers will take the bait and invest in a mobile which is also a serious portable games console, remains to be seen.
